Need to chill and relax after the long week? Come hang out with us and play some games. Gumbo Game Night is an opportunity to unplug, to unwind, and to connect with a dope community. Games include cards, board games, puzzles, and classic video games.
Registration is FREE, and the event is BYOB (Bring your own booze) + BYOG (bring your own games). Games will be provided, but feel free to bring any of your own as well!
Each month will also feature one of our favorite games. This month, our featured special guests is:
Trading Races - A party game for Black culture.
Who’s Blacker, Maya Angelou or Harriet Tubman? What about Kanye West or Barack Obama? Check out the incisive and playful card game, Trading Races. Featured in the Chicago Tribune, VICE News, and NPR, players are dealt five cards featuring famous figures, and compete to convince one another who holds the “Blackest” card. With each ensuing hand, players dig deeper into the dynamics and complexities of race – Blackness in particular. remember the rules are simple...the discussions won't be.
